A review of Simplilearn as a tech educational tool

What does Simplilearn do?

Simplilearn is an online learning platform that partners with companies and universities, including Duke and Purdue. They have 2 different types of tracks: career and skills. For career tracks, they offer programs in product management, software development, cyber security, digital marketing, data science, artificial intelligence, and other subjects. Skills courses are a smaller time commitment. They focus on more specific topics, such as R for data science, machine learning, and ScrumMaster for product managers.

Those in the career tracks should expect to work 10-20 hours per week for 4-8 months. In addition to class materials, students receive weekly 1-on-1 sessions to review technical skills and access to career coaching. Introduction and intermediate skill courses, on the other hand, last 2-4 months, require 8-10 hours of work per week, and do not include 1-on-1 mentorship or career coaching.

While all courses are live, lectures are also recorded, so students can review past material at their own pace. To master concepts, students participate in weekly class Q&A sessions, quizzes, projects, and more. For additional support, students can connect with their instructors and peers via the online discussion forum.

Who is Simplilearn for?

Simplilearn can benefit those interested in learning a new field from scratch, brushing up on the basics, or advancing skills in their field. With courses in a variety of fields and levels, many people across tech can use Simplilearn to deepen their knowledge.

What does Simplilearn cost? How much work is involved?

Prices for Simplilearn courses range from $79-$1,500 for skills courses and $3,300-$5,500 for career tracks. Payment options vary by course. But, students usually have the option of paying tuition upfront, making monthly payments, or taking out a private loan. Generally, students make payments via credit card.

To register, students create an account with their email address or LinkedIn. Once registered, students can enroll in any course or track, as long as they meet the prerequisites.

Ratings and reviews

Online reviews of Simplilearn are mixed. They are on CourseReport’s list of best online coding bootcamps of 2020. On Quora, a grad stated that “there are good instructors with very good experience in their respective [fields], there is no in depth knowledge you will get after completing this course.”

Another Quora reviewer said that while “they can make it more user friendly,” the instructor’s “time to respond back is extremely quick.” Similarly, most reviewers on Trustpilot felt like they learned a lot from the courses, with one grad noting “I would recommend Simplilearn [to people] who would want to keep pace with technology.”

However, a handful of other Trustpilot reviewers were disappointed with their customer service experiences. One person noted that they use “deceptive sales tactics.” Other students reported issues with receiving a refund. One grad said, “They strung me along and promised to make this right for a year but never did”. A Reddit reviewer echoes this, observing that Simplilearn is “an adequate trainer, terrible organization.”
