I decided to apply for jobs because I felt that I was underpaid at my current position. I love my current company and colleagues, but I recently received an offer from another company with a much higher base salary, as well as better stock options. Can I try to use this offer as leverage to ask for a raise at my current company?
Yes! Many people apply for new jobs because they are unsatisfied with their compensation, not because they are unhappy in their current roles. If you have a job offer from another company, you should let your manager know. Kindly explain that you would love to stay with your current company but would need an increase in compensation. There is a good chance that they might match, or come close to matching, your new offer. More importantly, having another job offer demonstrates your value to the company.
