A review of Interview Query as a data science interview prep tool

A review of Interview Query as a data science interview prep tool

Hi, I’m Olga! I have years of experience in data science, most recently at eBay. Now I work as an industry mentor at Pathrise, helping data scientists land great jobs through technical workshops and 1-on-1s. Check out my article where I review Interview Query.

What does Interview Query do?

Interview Query is a study tool that prepares aspiring data analysts and data scientists for technical interviews. The free program sends job seekers free weekly interview questions from real data science interviews, helping them land their dream job.

Their site offers over 250 questions from actual interviews with top tech companies. They provide questions on a variety of subjects including SQL, algorithms, machine learning theory, product intuition, statistics, and probability. The goal is to help candidates prepare for the wide breadth of topics asked in data science interviews.

Students in the free program only get a limited number of questions and answers sent to their inbox, but can upgrade to a paid course to receive more in-depth solutions and problem-solving strategies. Their paid memberships include an educational video series, mock interview content, take-home challenges, resume reviews, 1-on-1 coaching, more interview questions, and a Slack community. Paid 1 hour coaching sessions with industry professionals are also available separately.

Who is Interview Query for?

Aspiring data scientists, data analysts, and machine learning engineers who are looking to improve their technical skills and practice for their interviews can benefit from Interview Query. The program is especially helpful for people looking for a self-paced prep course.

What does Interview Query cost? How much work is involved?

There are 3 levels of Interview Query memberships. The standard package gives users access to detailed interview question solutions, video content, and the Slack community for $59 a month. The second tier is their most popular package, offering all the options as the standard package but with over 30 take-home challenges for $229 a year. The third option adds one 1-on-1 coaching session, personalized job search plans, and resume reviews for $369 a year.

Separate 1-on-1 coaching is also available. 1 hour coaching sessions costs $179 each or $499 for 3 sessions. Job-seekers are paired with an experienced data scientist from a top tech company for personalized interview and career support.

Ratings and reviews

As a relatively new program, Interview Query does not have many reviews. However, they have a positive member interview on their blog and host testimonials on their website

The program has mostly positive reviews on Reddit. One member would have liked a stronger curriculum. They felt frustrated  that the platform only hosts “a very limited number of questions” with “just 15-16 SQL questions.” But, another member praised the curriculum and the helpful Slack channel, raving “the solutions have been really helpful for understanding SQL & other data science concepts” and “the community has also been a nice bonus.” Other premium members found “useful takehomes for SQL” and were pleasantly surprised that “The SQL questions have shown up on a couple of my interviews.” Overall, members seem satisfied with the real interview questions and the practical, detailed solutions.
