I know that I should send cold emails to hiring managers and recruiters, but I found someone else at the company that grew up in my hometown and attended the same college. We even have mutual friends. I do not think they are on the hiring team, but I would feel more comfortable emailing them. What should I do?
The best person to send a cold email to is the person who will respond to you positively. If you have something in common (grew up in the same city, attended the same bootcamp or college, etc.), they are more likely to respond. Even if they are not in charge of hiring, they might be able to send a short message to the hiring manager or recruiter. Moreover, they might be able to offer you insider knowledge about the interview process, the company’s culture, and more.
